‘Kanjoos Makhichoos’ starring Kunal Kemmu, Shweta Tripathi and Piyush Mishra to release on Zee5 on March 24

'Kanjoos Makhichoos', written and directed by playback singer and winner of Indian Idol 2012 Vipul Mehta, will premiere on Zee5 Global on March 24.

The comedy drama stars Kunal Kemmu, Shweta Tripathi, Piyush Mishra, Alka Amin, Rajiv Gupta and the late Raju Srivastav in pivotal roles.

Director Vipul Mehta said, “The story has a very realistic approach with humane and relatable characters. In this world of nuclear urban families, our film is focussing on the story of a joint, close-knit family. The protagonist Jamnaprasad is a miser and his miserly ways will steal the heart of the audience.”

'Kanjoos Makhichoos' is the story of Jamnaprasad Pandey (Kunal Khemu) who is infamous in the entire town of Deoria, Uttar Pradesh as a miser. His parents, Gangaprasad Pandey (Piyush Mishra) and Saraswati Pandey (Alka Amin), wife Madhuri (Shweta Tripathi) and son Krish, are fed up with Jamna’s penny-pinching habits.

Right from allocating one bucket per person for bathing to using one agarbatti throughout the month, Jamnaprasad never spares a single rupee unnecessarily. Little does the family know that Jamna, the loving son, was saving to fulfill his father’s long standing wish of going on a char-dhaam yatra. His miserly habits pay off as he is able to collect enough funds to fulfill his parent’s long cherished dream of going on char-dhaam yatra.

But, it is never to be as heavy rains cause flooding during the yatra and Jamna loses all contact with his parents. The Government declares people missing for more than 25 days dead and releases a compensation of INR 7 lakh for each missing person, making it INR 14 lakh for Jamna’s parents.

However, by the time the compensation reaches Jamnaprasad, it is reduced to INR 10 lakh as government officers playing middle men, have generously shared INR four lakhs of the compensation money amongst themselves. Upset that he has been cheated like this, Jamna decides to fight back against the corrupt system. But, will a powerless, generally undermined middle-class person win against a powerful, corrupt system? Watch the film to see how things unravel.
