Italian Tennis star Jannik Sinner put up a strong show to beat Carlos Alcaraz and lift his first Wimbledon title on Sunday.
The Wimbledon final saw the same competitors facing each other for the second time in five weeks, when they had faced each other at the French Open.
The result this time was in favour of Sinner, who bounced back from the French Open defeat to beat Alcaraz in four sets — 4-6 6-4 6-4 6-4.
Sinner is now the first Italian to win the Wimbledon singles title.
This was Sinner’s fourth Grand Slam victory.
The defeat in England also ended Alcaraz’s 24-match winning streak.
Sinner was quoted as saying by the Wimbledon website, “Winning Wimbledon is the most special thing you can have”.
“This is the part that I’m the proudest of because it really has not been easy. I always tried to be honest with myself and had the self-talk too, you know, what if, what if? I always tried to accept it, in a way,” Sinner said.
