Israeli missile hits Iran, say reports, hours after Tehran warning

Israel has carried out a strike on Iran, nearly a week after a missile and drone attack was carried out by Tehran on Jerusalem, US officials told CNN.

The attack came just hours after Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian told CNN in an interview that if Israel takes any further military action against it would be “immediate and at a maximum level".

The attack came just hours after Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian told CNN in an interview that if Israel takes any further military action then retaliation would be “immediate and at a maximum level”.

“In case the Israeli regime embarks on adventurism again and takes action against the interests of Iran, the next response from us will be immediate and at a maximum level,” Amir-Abdollahian told CNN.

The sound of explosions were heard around 4:00 am in the northern and eastern regions of Isfahan province, Mehr News Agency reported.

Local people told the news agency that the blast sound was due to the firing of air defence systems.

The news agency reported no damage to property or casualty has been reported so far.

An informed source told Mehr News Agency that the sound of the explosion was caused by the destruction of three micro air vehicles over Isfahan.

Earlier, Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi had warned that Iran’s attack on his country would be “met with a response”.

He made the remarks while visiting Nevatim Airbase in Israel where four Iranian ballistic missiles hit on Saturday (April 13, 2024).

“Iran wanted to harm the strategic capabilities of the State of Israel — that is something that had not happened before. We were prepared for the ‘Iron Shield’ operation — preparation that brought Iran to also encounter aerial superiority,” he was quoted as saying by The Times of Israel.

“We are looking ahead, we are considering our steps, and this launch of so many missiles, cruise missiles, and UAVs into the territory of the State of Israel will be met with a response,” he added.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has said at the UN Security Council meeting that the Israeli regime must be forced to stop repeating any further military adventures against Iran’s interests.

“Iran’s legitimate defence and countermeasures have now ended. Therefore, the Israeli regime should be forced to stop repeating any further military adventures against Iran’s interests,” Amirabdollahian was quoted as saying by IRNA.
