IPL news round-up: RCB gets a new kit, Delhi names bowling coach, Gayle set to join KXIP in UAE

The 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League will kick off on September 19. The 13th season of the cash rich league has been shifted out of India due to the coronavirus pandemic and will be held in the UAE. 

Here’s a round-up of news from IPL 2020: 

Royal Challengers Bangalore unveil new kit

RCB have unveiled their look for IPL 2020 with a Twitter post featuring skipper Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Yuzvendra Chahal flaunting the new kit. 

Designed by Zeven, the kit features RCB’s title sponsor Muthoot Fincorp as well as their other sponsors. 

Gayle to join KXIP after testing COVID-negative

Big hitter Chris Gayle is set to join his Kings XI Punjab squad in the UAE after testing negative for COVID-19. There were some doubts about Gayle’s coronavirus status as he attended sprinter Usain Bolt’s birthday party recently, after which the athlete tested positive and is now in home quarantine.

However, Gayle put up Instagram stories with videos of his swab testing, ahead of his flight to the UAE. 

He will be tested once again at the airport when he lands in the UAE and will have to serve a 6-day quarantine. He will be tested on Days one, three and five and if all those results are negative, he will join his squad. 

Delhi Capitals hire new bowling coach

The Delhi Capitals have named former Australia fast bowler Ryan Harris as their bowling coach for the 2020 IPL season. Harris replaces compatriot James Hopes.  

Harris has previously held coaching roles with Big Bash League side Brisbane Heat and Kings XI Punjab. 

Harris, will join the Capitals’ coaching staff consisting of head coach Ricky Ponting, assistant coach Mohammad Kaif and spin-bowling coach Samuel Badree.

"I am delighted to be back in the IPL," Harris told the Delhi Capitals website. "This is a huge opportunity for me to contribute to the franchise's ambitions of lifting the coveted IPL trophy. The Delhi Capitals side has an impressive bowling line-up, and I can't wait to start working with them all."
