An Indian-origin Sikh woman who went missing in Pakistan during a pilgrimage has reportedly converted to Islam and married a local man in Sheikhupura, media reports said.
Sarabjit Kaur, 52, from Kapurthala, was part of a group of a Sikh pilgrims group who travelled to Pakistan on November 4 under a bilateral shrine-visitation agreement.
The group returned to India on November 13 after a 10-day visit, but Kaur did not accompany them.
Reports said Kaur went missing while visiting gurdwaras in Nankana Sahib.
A mosque in Sheikhupura has issued a nikah certificate citing her consent to marry Nasir Hussain, a local resident, after converting to Islam.
Kaur, who previously lived in the home of her husband Karnail Singh in Amanipur, is reportedly divorced and has two children. Singh has been based in England for more than three decades.
Kapurthala police confirmed Kaur has three past criminal cases registered against her—two in Kapurthala City and one in Bathinda’s Kot Fatta—related mainly to cheating and fraud, Indian media reported.
