The accused, identified as Balakrishnan and Mathew Valiyaplakkal, were taken into custody for assaulting VJ Babu, a former classmate of Balakrishnan, in what the police have described as a revenge attack linked to an incident from when the men were in class 4.

According to reports, the assault took place on June 2, just days after an informal reunion between former classmates. According to the FIR, during the gathering, a verbal exchange occurred between Babu and Balakrishnan regarding a physical altercation from their school years.

Although the disagreement appeared to have been resolved at the time, the situation escalated when Balakrishnan and Mathew allegedly confronted Babu again.

Police said the duo approached Babu and questioned him about the alleged attack from over five decades ago. The confrontation turned physical, with Balakrishnan reportedly grabbing Babu by the collar while Mathew struck him on the face and back with a stone.

Babu sustained injuries and had to be moved to the Government Medical College Hospital in Pariyaram, Kannur, for treatment.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including those pertaining to wrongful restraint, voluntarily causing hurt using dangerous means, and acts committed in furtherance of common intention.

The incident has drawn widespread attention for the unusual motive behind the assault, prompting discussions on social media about unresolved childhood conflicts and the extreme actions they can sometimes trigger.
