Indian entertainment and live sports streaming platform Hotstar to launch in Singapore in November

Hotstar, the Disney-owned video streaming service for entertainment and live sports, is set to launch in Singapore on November 1 on StarHub. Apart from providing movie premieres, original series and movies, shows from Indian TV channels Star Vijay & Star Plus, and live news, the platform will also show live sports, including the ongoing Indian Premier League.

StarHub has announced a launch offer for its consumers, providing free access to the last four IPL league matches.

Consumers in Singapore can subscribe to the service directly through the Hotstar website or the Hotstar app on Android or iOS devices for a subscription fee of SGD 69.98 annually. The service will be available on connected TV devices such as Apple TV, Android TV and Google Chromecast. All Hotstar users will also have access to two concurrent streams and unlimited download (excluding live feed) per device.

Hotstar will also be available to StarHub’s Indian Plus subscribers on a 12 or 24 month contract at no additional cost. Indian+ is available to customers at SGD 15 a month on a 24-month contract or SGD 25 a month on a 12-month contract.

"With an extensive range of content, featuring the biggest stars and an unparalleled user experience, Hotstar changed the way Indians consume content, quickly becoming the country's leading streaming service. We are excited to launch Hotstar in collaboration with StarHub, and bring the same world-class service to audiences in Singapore,” said Amit Malhotra, Regional Lead, Emerging Markets, The Walt Disney Company APAC.

Hotstar will feature over 85,000 hours of content, including ad-free viewing of more than 2,000 movies and 900 TV shows and also plans to live stream major cricket tournaments next year such as the 2021 ICC Men’s World Cup, Asia Cup and IPL 2021.

Additionally, the platform will offer consumers access to popular shows such as Star Vijay’s Pandian Stores, Barathi Kanamma, Super Singer as well as Star Plus’s Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, Anupamaa, Yeh Rishtey Hain Pyaar Ke, among others.

Hotstar will also provide Hotstar Premiere Nights, which in the past has included big name films such as Dil Bechara, LootCase, Khuda Haafiz, and Sadak 2. The platform offers a curated library of over 2,000 Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu movies.

“We are thrilled to welcome another top-class streaming app onto StarHub TV+ service as we continue with unabated momentum to add the hottest and freshest content to entertain our customers. As the number one subscription video on demand (SVOD) service in India, Hotstar boasts a myriad of Indian blockbuster films, TV shows, and the highly anticipated Dream11 Indian Premier League Playoffs and Final, complementing StarHub’s existing TV channels to give our customers the best line-up of Tamil and Hindi entertainment content in Singapore,” said Johan Buse, Chief of Consumer Business Group, StarHub.
