Indian Embassy in UAE removes restrictions on passport renewal applications

Keeping in view the recent relaxation in restrictions relating to COVID-19 pandemic by the UAE authorities, the Embassy of India Abu Dhabi has decided to remove all restrictions on passport renewal applications. 

The Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi says that passport renewal applications can be submitted as was practiced earlier, at BLS International Centres in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain from July 15. ​ 

The advisory from the passport service office however says that some of the restrictions conveyed in an advisory released on 17 June 2020 will continue. 

These include allowing the exemption on physical presence for passport renewal applicants for certain applicants. Physical presence will be exempted for: 

  • Senior citizens above 60 years
  • Minor children below 12 years 
  • Pregnant women 
  • Differently abled applicants 

The embassy tweeted further instructions to those who were planning to visit the BLS centres. It requested all to maintain appropriate social distancing norms in accordance with local rules and regulations and wear face masks and gloves while visiting BLS centres. 

The Indian Embassy in the UAE, which is based in Abu Dhabi had suspended Indian passport services at all centres since March as a precautionary measure against the spread of Covid-19.
