The Indian Embassy in Portugal reacted strongly against a recent protest organised by Pakistani nationals outside the Chancery building near the Embassy office in Lisbon and called it a ‘desperate provocation’.

The Indian Embassy wrote on X: “Embassy of India @IndiainPortugal responded firmly with ‘Operation Sindoor’ to the cowardly protest organized by Pakistan near our Chancery building. We thank the Government of Portugal and its police authorities for their support in ensuring the safety and security of the Embassy.”

Sending out a strong message to the protesters, the Embassy said: “India will not be intimidated by such desperate provocations. Our resolve remains unshaken.”

The Embassy shared several images on X where officials could be seen standing on the balcony with banners on the wall reading: “Operation Sindoor is not yet over.”

‘Silent yet strong and resolute message’

Indian envoy to Portugal Puneet Roy Kundal wrote on X: “Protests organised by Pakistan outside the Embassy were met with a silent yet strong and resolute message from our side ‘Operation Sindoor is not yet over’. All the Embassy officers were steadfast in this approach.”

India-Pakistan conflict

India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 and targeted nine terror hubs in Pakistan and PoK.

The operation was launched in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam town in Jammu and Kashmir, where terrorists shot dead 26 people, mostly non-Muslim tourists.

The incident drew widespread condemnation.

The operation aimed to dismantle terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

After the Pakistan Army again targeted Indian civilians and resorted to cross-border firing, the Indian Armed Forces retaliated, destroying defence systems of the hostile neighbour.

On Pakistan’s appeal, India responded with a ceasefire on May 10 but Prime Minister Narendra Modi warned of fresh retaliation if Islamabad goes astray.
