India now second worst-affected country by COVID-19, after overtaking Brazil

India has gone past Brazil in total coronavirus case count to become the second worst-affected country in the world. India has now reported over 90,000 cases per day for the last couple of days, with its total infection count crossing 42 lakh, as per the Indian Health Ministry. 

The United States is still on top of the list of countries worst hit by COVID-19 with over 62.75 lakh cases. 

Out of India’s cases, about 8.82 lakh or 20.9% are active cases while the recovery rate is approximately 77%.

The worst-hit states in the country are Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh. 

India had reported 71,642 deaths as of September 7 morning, which is the third-highest in the world. The fatality rate stood at 1.7% as of September 7 morning. 

Globally, there have been over 2.7 crore COVID-19 cases so far with about 8.83 lakh deaths. The worst affected countries, apart from the United States and India, are Brazil, Russia and Peru.
