Happy Mother’s Day! Runway Mom, a Singapore society event, returns for its Season 7 finale on May 27

Runway Mom, a Singapore society event, is a platform for mothers — not professional models, but regular women — to walk the runway, show off their poise and style, and feel like the proverbial million bucks. On May 27, this show, which is now in its 7th season, will have its big finale. The event promises to be particularly special, as this is the last season of Runway Mom.

“This is our 7th and final season as we want to leave this platform at its peak,” said Shalima Motial, the brain behind the event and the Founder & CEO of Dream Catchers, raising a salute to the participants on Mother’s Day, today.

Runway Mom is not like any other pageant because it is not a contest. Motial says that this is a celebration of women as they are, “women of all age groups, size, nationality, and with their loved ones”.

In an e-mail statement shared with this website, Motial says, “This event started in 2016 and since then, [it] has seen many women walk the fashion ramp with their children, spouse, as a family, or by themselves over six seasons. The USP of this platform is that it’s non-competitive, celebrating women just as they are.”

This year’s event finale of May 27 has been preceded by six pre-events, which started in April. Motial says, “There are lots of tick-offs on everyone’s bucket list, walking the ramp feeling like a celebrity with their children and making lifetime memories, getting a professional photo shoot done, coming on TV.

“We have women who’ve been a part of five out of the seven seasons [of Runway Mom], and it’s adorable to see their kids being with them as a toddler and now participating again as eight/nine-year-olds.”

The pre-events have included sessions on “building the emotional muscle”, wellness, naturopathy, styling, make-up demo, Zumba, yoga, and a talk on “Effective Communication”.

Since Season 5, the Runway Mom event has been co-produced by Zee TV and Dream Catchers and has reached 12.6 million viewers across 18 countries.

Runway moms talk about their experience

Suchi, laughter coach and influencer, Singapore

“I love how Shalima creates opportunities for families to have a good time at runway events, without having to go through any competition and judgement. I had an amazing experience at Runway Mom Season 6, so I’m participating in Season 7, too. I’m feeling awesome participating in Season 7. My family is very supportive of it, and they love to read the updates and admire photographs of all the Runway Mom activities. I am thankful for such a cool event in a non-threatening environment, where families can bond together in such a great way.”

“I like the concept of Runway Mom, as it makes women meet themselves for no one else but themselves. My family members in India know about this from me and are very happy for me. This is my third time participating in Runway Mom; I just love the platform and what it brings to the table.”

Akshata Jantali, financial controller, Asia Reinsurance, Singapore

“I’m a return participant in Runway Mom Season 7. The events have always been full of fun and frolic. They’ve been so amazingly organised, that I would never miss any season. I’m very excited to walk the ramp with my family. It’s a great family bonding activity. Every pre-event along the way promises to be equally enticing. The organisers make every participant feel special, and it’s a pleasure to gain new friends and network along the way.

“I have cherished moments walking the ramp with my son. This year, my mother has flown down from India and we wish to have three generations walking the ramp in Season 7.”
