Google's Sundar Pichai appointed CEO at parent firm Alphabet

According to media reports, Google's Sundar Pichai will be taking over the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at parent firm Alphabet from co-founder Larry Page. 

Alphabet includes Google as well as units focusing other areas including self-driving cars and life sciences.

The company said that meanwhile, Page and Google co-founder Sergey Brin "will continue their involvement as co-founders, shareholders and members of Alphabet's board of directors." 

"We've never been ones to hold on to management roles when we think there's a better way to run the company," said Page and Brin in a letter to employees.

They added there is "no better person to lead Google and Alphabet into the future" and that Indian-origin Pichai "brings humility and a deep passion for technology to our users, partners and our employees every day".
