Gold discovered in central India’s Jabalpur; survey confirms major reserve

The central Indian district of Jabalpur, long known for its rich deposits of iron ore, is now making headlines for a completely different reason. A recent discovery in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur district has revealed the presence of a significant gold reserve, sparking excitement among geologists and the local community.

Most of this demand in India was for gold in the form of coins and bars.

The new find has come from the Mahgawan Keolari area in Sihora tehsil, where a detailed survey conducted by the Geological Survey of India has brought to light traces of gold, along with other valuable minerals like copper and manganese, reports said.

The discovery is the result of an extensive survey carried out by a team of experts who collected soil samples and sent them for laboratory testing. Chemical analysis confirmed the presence of gold and other metals, raising hopes of a major mineral resource hidden beneath the surface.

Officials associated with the survey said that the early findings are conclusive and show strong traces of gold, supported by lab results. The gold reserves are estimated to be spread over nearly 100 hectares, and if the quantities turn out as expected, the volume could run into lakhs of tonnes.

This new development could mark a major shift in the economic landscape of the Jabalpur region. While the area has already played an important role in India’s mining sector through its iron and manganese reserves, the addition of gold to the list significantly increases its importance. Experts believe that such a find could boost local employment and attract investment in mining-related infrastructure.

This is not the first time that gold has been discovered in Madhya Pradesh. A few years ago, a similar deposit was reported in the nearby Katni district.

However, the current discovery in Jabalpur is seen as especially promising because of the scale and the confirmed presence of not just gold but multiple valuable minerals. It is being described as one of the most important mineral discoveries in central India in recent years.

Further studies and exploration are likely to be carried out in the coming months to determine the full extent and commercial potential of the deposit. The district administration and geological experts are expected to work closely to ensure that the exploration continues without delay and that the necessary clearances and assessments are conducted properly. If the final findings match the early estimates, this discovery could play a key role in shaping the region’s future and enhancing Madhya Pradesh’s standing as a mineral-rich state.
