
Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly, who led the national side to the World Cup final in 2003, has been appointed as the head coach of the Pretoria Capitals ahead of the upcoming SA20 League.
The franchise announced the development on Instagram.
“The Prince is all set to bring a royal flair to the Capitals camp! We are ecstatic to announce ๐๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ๐๐ฏ ๐๐๐ง๐ ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ฒ as our new ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐จ๐๐๐ก,” the franchise wrote on Instagram.
Ganguly, who had previously served as the BCCI President, will succeed former England coach Jonathan Trott in the head coach role.
Thanking Trott for the contribution, the franchise said: “Jonathan Trott, forever grateful for your leadership and unwavering dedication to the team.”
This is the first time Ganguly will be serving as the head coach of a team.
In the 2019 seasonย of theย Indian Premier League, Ganguly served as the mentor of the Delhi Capitals.
He left the franchise after becoming the BCCI President.
Ganguly’s first appointment as the coach will be selecting the team during the player auction on September 9.
