At just 15, Kareen Kaur has made history by becoming Singapore’s first female Formula 4 driver, marking a significant milestone for both motorsport and representation in the country. Hailing from a remarkable sporting family, Kareen shares the spotlight with her younger siblings, wrestler Kushvin Kaur and track and field athlete Kavneet Kaur.
In a sit down, exclusive interview with me, Kareen and her father, Kuldeep Singh, spoke at length about her career, goals, ambitions and more.
Kareen’s journey began with a childhood love for Formula 1, watching races with her parents. Kuldeep, also a motorsport enthusiast, recalls how she grew up in workshops, following him around as a young child. “She would always ask me what I was doing. She basically grew up in workshops,” he shared.
Her training took a serious turn at age 13. Since then, she has undergone intense physical conditioning, simulator practice, and testing sessions abroad, including Formula 4 trials in China.
“In Singapore, we don’t have Formula 4 to practise, so I’m training with simulators and gym,” Kareen said.
Despite the sport’s steep costs, her father has made sacrifices to support her career, from cutting personal expenses to securing sponsors like Motul Asia and Saltify.
Kareen is also the youngest ambassador for the Singapore Cancer Society, raising awareness through her racing.
“Whether you’re a girl or a boy, the only thing that proves your worth is getting on the podium,” she said.
