Over the years, Divyenndu has carved a niche for himself with his unique style of acting. While he rose to prominence as ‘Liquid’ in Pyaar Ka Punchnama, subsequent roles in Mirzapur, The Railway Men and Madgaon Express has cemented his place in Bollywood.
This December, the FTII graduate will showcase his prowess, yet again, as Ratan Pandit, a small town cop in Tisca Chopra’s Saali Mohabbat. Tisca, an acclaimed actress, is making her debut with the film which will release on ZEE5 Global on December 12.
Ahead of the release, Connected to India’s Himanshu Verma caught up with Divyenndu for a free-wheeling chat about his movie and acting.
Asked what drew him to the film, Divyenndu said that the script stood out because every character felt real.
“When I was reading the script, I found fault in every character. Every character is a great character in the film, which makes them very, very human,” he said.
“I love the milieu of the whole story where these characters are, how they were expressing themselves, the kind of situations they find themselves in, and how they come out of it and, deal with it. So, for me, Saali Mohabbat has a certain fragrance to the whole thing, which I found very, very intoxicating.
“It just draws you inside. There’s this certain kind of an energy,” he added.
Talking about playing Ratan Pandit, he said his main preparation was to avoid cliches. Apart from Divyenndu, the film also casts Radhika Apte, Anurag Kashyap, Anshumaan Pushkar, Sauraseni Maitra and veteran actor Sharad Saxena in pivotal roles.
As for why audiences should watch the film, he kept it simple: “Guys, I’m part of it. So you better go and watch it”, adding that it’s a kind of a slow burn and he hoped those watching won’t be disappointed.
