Delhi Crime wins Best Drama Series at the International Emmy Awards

The Indian entertainment industry was abuzz with excitement after Netflix's Delhi Crime won the best Drama Series at this year's International Emmy Awards - India's first ever international Emmy. 

The show, which released in 2019, tells the story of the Delhi Police investigation of the brutal gangrape and subsequent death of the 23-year-old physiotherapy intern in a moving bus on the night of December 16, 2012. The show stars Shefali Shah who plays Vartika Chaturvedi - a character based on former Delhi Police DCP Chaya Sharma who cracked the case within 72 hours.

The show was directed by Indian-Canadian director Richie Mehta, who dedicated the win to all the women who not just endure violence that men inflict on them, "but are also tasked to solve the problem."
