A mass shooting incident took place in Toronto, Canada, on Tuesday evening (local time), resulting in one death and injuries to five others. According to local police, the injured victims were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

Emergency services were called around 8:30 p.m. local time to the area of Flemington and Zachary Roads, near Ranee Avenue and Allen Road. The shooting occurred in a residential area not far from the Yorkdale Shopping Centre in North York.
Toronto Police confirmed the incident on social media, stating that one male victim had died and five others were injured. All the injured were transported to hospital and are expected to recover.
A command post has been set up in the area to manage the investigation. As of now, police have not shared any information about suspects or arrests. The motive behind the shooting is also not known yet.

Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow acknowledged the incident and said that her office is in touch with local authorities. She also thanked the first responders for their quick response.
“Disturbed by news of the shootings in the Lawrence Heights area this evening. My office is in contact with Toronto Police, who are on scene now and investigating, and the local councillor Deputy Mayor Mike Colle,” part of her post on X read.
“I want to thank the first responders – Toronto Police, Fire and Paramedic services for your work on a very busy and challenging scene. Toronto Police are working to provide an update soon,” it added.
The police are continuing their investigation and have requested anyone with information about the shooting to come forward. The neighbourhood remains alert as authorities try to find out more details.
