British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is out of hospital after receiving intensive care for persistent COVID-19 symptoms. Johnson thanked Britain’s National Health Service and said that he owed them his life.
"I can't thank them enough. I owe them my life," Johnson said in a video message, thanking the staff at St Thomas's Hospital in central London, where he was admitted a week ago.
On April 6 he was moved into intensive care, where he remained until April 9. On Friday, the UK PM was reported to be taking short walks as he recovered and subsequently left the hospital on Sunday.
However, Johnson will not immediately return to work. Downing Street said that he would continue his recovery at his country residence, Chequers.
"On the advice of his medical team, the PM will not be immediately returning to work. He wishes to thank everybody at St Thomas' for the brilliant care he has received. All of his thoughts are with those affected by this illness," said a statement.
