Banita Sandhu opens up about Detective Sherdil, working with Diljit Dosanjh

Welsh actress Banita Sandhu, who is of Indian descent, recently spoke to Connected to India about her latest film Detective Sherdil, where she stars alongside Diljit Dosanjh and Boman Irani.

Banita shared her excitement about reuniting with Diljit Dosanjh after their 2018 music video together. “I’m super excited. I think I’m lucky to have had the opportunity to have worked with him before. So, to get that opportunity again, and that too in a movie, I’m really blessed,” she said.

Set in Budapest, Hungary, Detective Sherdil is a whodunnit where nothing is as it appears and everyone has something to hide.

The story kicks off with the gruesome murder of a flamboyant billionaire business tycoon, portrayed by Boman Irani. What initially seems like a hate crime soon spirals into a much more complex conspiracy, woven with betrayal, buried secrets, and billion-dollar stakes.

Speaking about her role, Banita revealed she’s deaf and she runs an NGO. “She really is the apple of her father’s eye. So. it’s a heartbreaking time for her that we find her in.”

She described her scenes with Boman Irani, who plays her father, as particularly touching. “It was really a father-daughter love story in my eyes. It was just so beautiful and organic… those moments I think were my favourite to film.”

Banita also observed Boman’s unique acting technique. “Before they even say lights, camera, action, he would already start playing in the scene. I’ve never seen anyone do that before.”

About Diljit, she said, “I don’t think he’s changed at all. He’s incredibly focused, incredibly disciplined. He’s always been that person who keeps his head down and works hard.”

She praised his humility on set, adding, “He showed up as an actor. Not once did I see him interfere with the direction or production. He was really respectful to everyone.”
