U-19 Asia Cup: Teen phenom Vaibhav Suryavanshi hits 14 sixes, scores 171 off 95 as he pockets another record

On Friday, December 12, 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi pocketed another cricket record, as he smacked 14 sixes to score a breathtaking 171 off 95 balls. Suryavanshi’s knock came against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Under-19 team in U-19 Asia Cup match. His 14 sixes is the most in a single innings of a Youth ODI, going past the previous record of Australia’s Michael Hill, who hit 12 sixes in 2008.

Riding on his knock, the Indian boys piled 433 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their 50 overs. In reply, UAE managed only 199 runs while losing 7 wickets.

Suryavanshi also struck nine fours enroute his innings at the ICC Academy Ground in Dubai. Not just batting, he also bowled two overs, giving away 13 runs. He was adjudged the player of the match.

Just a few days ago, Suryavanshi showed his batting prowess in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, scoring a 61-ball 108. He also became the youngest batter to score a century at India’s domestic T20 tournament, going past Vijay Zol of Maharashtra who made a century against Mumbai in 2013 at 18 years 111 days.

If his selection at the IPL turned heads and started a debate late last year, he showed his critics and naysayers why the Rajasthan Royals bought the prodigy for INR 1.10 crore (approx. USD 130.4K) in the mega auction in November 2024.

Just 23 days after his 14th birthday, the southpaw smacked the experienced Gujarat Titans bowlers all over the park to score a memorable 101 off 38 balls.

He not only became the youngest cricketer to score a century in Franchise cricket, but also equalled Chris Gayle’s record for the first century scored in the league.

The teen sensation had also smashed a whirlwind 42-ball 144 against UAE in the Rising Stars Asia Cup earlier this 2025, in what is turning out to a watershed year for the batter from Bihar.
