Actor Rajesh Tailang, known for powerful performances in shows like Mirzapur and Bandish Bandits, said he never chased fame. Rajesh said he just kept working with honesty.
Speaking to Connected to India about his latest series Bakaiti, now streaming on ZEE5 Global, the ace actor said his journey began much earlier than people realise.
Rajesh grew up in an artistic family in Rajasthan, though no one was an actor. “No one stopped me from pursuing art,” he said.
He began doing theatre at the age of 12 and later attended children’s workshops at the famed National School of Drama (NSD). That experience shaped his path.
Before the OTT boom in India, Rajesh did several films but did not find the breakthrough he wanted. He returned to teaching and performing theatre until new opportunities came with shows like Selection Day, Mirzapur, Delhi Crime and Bandish Bandits. “I’m lucky many of these series became popular, and that helped my work reach people,” he said.
In Bakaiti, Rajesh once again shares the screen with long-time collaborator Sheeba Chaddha. But he insists each pairing has been very different. But that is not the only similarity he has from one of his past series. In Bakaiti, he once again plays a lawyer.
Asked about his take on the OTT vs Film debate, the actor called OTT a supportive medium, he said both the mediums complement each other and will survive together.
Bakaiti is currently streaming exclusively on ZEE5 Global. Watch the full @Work interview below.
