England pulled off a thrilling 22-run victory over India at Lord’s to go up 2-1 in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series, adding new excitement to both the series and the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025–27 cycle.

In a match full of intensity, twists, and high emotions, England managed to defend a low target of 193 runs on the final day, bowling India out for 170 in the last session.
This result had a direct impact on the WTC standings. Before the match, England had a points percentage (PCT) of 50. The win pushed their PCT to 66.67, helping them jump to joint second position along with Sri Lanka.
Australia remain at the top with a perfect record so far.
India, who were second before this Test, have now slipped to fourth with a PCT of 33.33, having won only one of their three matches.
Bangladesh, with 16.67 from two games, and West Indies, who are yet to register a win, sit below India. Other teams like South Africa, New Zealand, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka are either mid-series or yet to complete a full series, so their rankings are still shifting.
The Lord’s Test saw both teams post identical first-innings scores of 387. Joe Root’s century and useful contributions from Jamie Smith and Brydon Carse helped England reach a competitive total.
India responded strongly with KL Rahul scoring a hundred, Rishabh Pant hitting a quick 74, and Ravindra Jadeja adding 72.
Jasprit Bumrah’s five-wicket haul in the first innings and Washington Sundar’s 4 for 22 in the second innings showed that India were very much in the contest.
However, England’s bowlers turned the game around in the final innings. Jofra Archer, Ben Stokes, and Carse picked up early wickets, reducing India to 58 for 4 by the end of Day 4.
Though Jadeja tried to hold the innings together with support from Bumrah and Siraj, a bizarre moment ended India’s hopes.
With two more Tests remaining in the series, both teams still have a chance to win the series and collect valuable WTC points, keeping the competition alive and wide open.
