Air India cuts 48 international flights weekly amid safety checks, airspace issues

Air India on Thursday, June 19, released a comprehensive update on international flight schedule changes due to operational adjustments affecting its Boeing 787 and 777 fleet.

The airline cited two key reasons for these temporary reductions: enhanced pre-flight safety checks being voluntarily undertaken and extended flight durations caused by airspace closures over parts of the Middle East.

The changes will be effective from June 21 and are expected to last until at least July 15. According to the airline, this step has been taken to stabilise schedules and reduce last-minute inconvenience to passengers.

Routes suspended until July 15

  • Delhi – Nairobi (AI961/962)- 4 weekly flights suspended
  • Amritsar – London Gatwick (AI169/170)- 3 weekly flights suspended
  • Goa (Mopa) – London Gatwick (AI145/146)- 3 weekly flights suspended

Routes with reduced frequency until July 15

North America

  • Delhi – Toronto- Reduced from 13 weekly to 7 weekly flights
  • Delhi – Vancouver- Reduced from 7 weekly to 5 weekly flights
  • Delhi – San Francisco- Reduced from 10 weekly to 7 weekly flights
  • Delhi – Chicago- Reduced from 7 weekly to 3 weekly flights
  • Delhi – Washington (Dulles)- Reduced from 5 weekly to 3 weekly flights

Europe

  • Delhi – London Heathrow- Reduced from 24 weekly to 22 weekly flights
  • Bengaluru – London Heathrow- Reduced from 7 weekly to 6 weekly flights
  • Amritsar – Birmingham & Delhi – Birmingham- Reduced from 3 each to 2 each flights
  • Delhi – Paris- Reduced from 14 weekly to 12 weekly flights
  • Delhi – Milan- Reduced from 7 weekly to 4 weekly flights
  • Delhi – Copenhagen- Reduced from 5 weekly to 3 weekly flights
  • Delhi – Vienna- Reduced from 4 weekly to 3 weekly flights
  • Delhi – Amsterdam- Reduced from 7 weekly to 5 weekly flights

Australia

  • Delhi – Melbourne- Reduced from 7 weekly to 5 weekly flights
  • Delhi – Sydney- Reduced from 7 weekly to 5 weekly flights

Far-East

  • Delhi – Tokyo (Haneda)- Reduced from 7 weekly to 6 weekly flights
  • Delhi – Seoul (Incheon)- Reduced from 5 weekly to 4 weekly flights

Air India has said it is proactively contacting affected passengers to offer alternative flight arrangements, complimentary rescheduling, or full refunds as per their preferences. The revised schedule is being updated across the airline’s website, mobile app, and contact centre.

The airline reaffirmed that passenger safety and operational reliability remain its top priorities, and efforts are underway to resume the full flight schedule as soon as conditions allow.
