Singapore and Indonesia further deepened their bilateral ties on Monday, June 16, at the Singapore-Indonesia Leaders’ Retreat, marking a key moment in their partnership with a Milestone Ceremony for Project Development.

This retreat was the first official meeting between Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, underscoring the importance both countries place on regional cooperation and sustainable development, an official release stated.
The ceremony followed the signing of three Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) in Jakarta on 13 June 2025 by Singapore’s Minister-in-charge of Energy and Science & Technology, Dr Tan See Leng, and Indonesia’s Minister for Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr Bahlil Lahadalia.
The MOUs focus on Cross-Border Electricity Trade, Carbon Capture and Storage, and the development of a Sustainable Industrial Zone, reflecting a joint commitment to advance clean energy and decarbonisation efforts in the region.
The Milestone Ceremony represents both nations’ intent to move forward with the implementation of these MOUs, supporting projects that align with their shared ambitions for sustainable economic growth.
Prime Minister Wong and President Prabowo Subianto jointly officiated the event, alongside other senior officials including Dr Tan See Leng, Dr Bahlil Lahadalia, Permanent Secretary at Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry Dr Beh Swan Gin, and Head of Indonesia’s Upstream Oil and Gas Authority Djoko Siswanto.
Senior government representatives from both countries were present at the ceremony, including members from Singapore Energy Interconnections (SGEI), the entity appointed by the Singapore Government to lead the development and operation of cross-border electricity connections.
As part of Singapore’s broader energy transition strategy, SGEI will work closely with both public and private sector partners to ensure the viability of regional power links. It will also explore commercial partnerships and strategic collaborations that contribute to Singapore’s goal of building a sustainable and resilient energy future.
The agreements and subsequent ceremony signal a forward-looking approach to regional cooperation, anchored in shared environmental and economic priorities.
