Just a day after a deadly crash involving an Air India flight, another aircraft from the airliner, travelling from Phuket in Thailand to New Delhi, received a bomb threat on board on Friday, June 13, and was forced to make an emergency landing back at Phuket airport.

Airport authorities said all 156 passengers on flight AI 379 were safely escorted off the aircraft as part of standard emergency procedures.
The flight had taken off from Phuket at 9.30 a.m. local time and was headed to India’s capital. However, the aircraft made a wide loop over the Andaman Sea before returning to the southern Thai island. Flight tracking data from Flightradar24 confirmed the route change.

Authorities at Airports of Thailand did not share specific details about the nature of the bomb threat. Air India has not issued any official statement so far.
This incident comes just a day after over 260 people died in a crash in western India’s Ahmedabad. The Air India flight crashed near the airport shortly after takeoff on Thursday.

India has witnessed a surge in hoax bomb threats over the past year. According to data, Indian airlines and airports received nearly 1,000 fake bomb calls and messages in the first ten months of last year. This was almost ten times higher than the number of similar incidents reported in 2023.
