In what might be one of the most “LinkedIn” moments of the year, a Singapore woman recently shared a post about a chance encounter in Bali — only to find out later that the man she met wasn’t who she thought he was.

Janney Hujic, who runs a travel start-up, was enjoying a laid-back day in Bali when she spotted a man across the cafe who looked very familiar. According to her post on May 19, the man resembled none other than former DBS Bank CEO Piyush Gupta.

“I glanced across the room and thought, That looks an awful lot like Piyush. Curious, I walked over — and sure enough, it was him. Piyush Gupta, the former CEO of DBS Bank. Casual. Composed. Entirely unassuming,” she wrote on LinkedIn.
Or so she thought.
The man, dressed in a relaxed floral shirt and radiating vacation energy, apparently made quite the impression. No security, no assistant, just him and what she described as “quiet conviction”.

As per the post, they chatted for a few minutes, with Janney sharing about her business and the man giving what sounded like very CEO-level encouragement.
She even took a picture with him and shared the experience on LinkedIn.
But here was the plot twist: A day later, the real Piyush Gupta himself commented on the post.
“Sorry to disillusion you. That isn’t me!” he wrote. The comment promptly went viral, racking up over 4,000 reactions — more than the original post.
Janney, to her credit, took the whole thing in good humour. “Piyush Gupta oh gosh, I’ve seen you when I was at DBS couldn’t tell the 2 apart. Kudos to him. In his defense he had your charms right on and he said all the right things,” she replied.
The post soon went viral on social media, where people had mixed reactions. Some poked fun at the situation, saying the two men looked nothing alike. Others felt it was an honest mistake.
