US personnel were injured after a ballistic missile attack occurred on Al-Asad Air Base in Iraq on Saturday (January 20, 2024), said CENTCOM.
US CENTCOM said the missile attack was launched by Iranian-backed militants.
“Most of the missiles were intercepted by the base’s air defence systems while others impacted on the base,” read a statement issued by the US CENTCOM.
The defence body said damage assessment following the attack is ongoing.
“A number of U.S. personnel are undergoing evaluation for traumatic brain injuries. At least one Iraqi service member was wounded,” the statement said.
