Teghbir Singh, a six-year-old boy from Punjab, India, has created a new world record by becoming the youngest mountaineer to scale Mount Elbrus, the highest peak in Russia and Europe.

Standing at 18,510 feet (5,642 metres), Mount Elbrus is also the tenth-most prominent peak in the world.
Teghbir began his trek along with his father, Sukhinderdeep Singh, on 20th June and successfully reached the summit on 28th June.
The achievement has been officially recognised by the Mountaineering, Rock Climbing and Sports Tourism Federation of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic in Russia.

Teghbir was issued a certificate confirming that he is the world’s youngest person to reach the summit of Mount Elbrus at the age of 6 years, 9 months, and 4 days.
This breaks the previous record held by Wagah Kushagra from Maharashtra, who had scaled the mountain at the age of 7 years and 3 months in 2024.
Teghbir’s preparation for the climb involved a strict training schedule and specialised diet, overseen by his trainer Bikramjit Singh Ghuman. His family has supported his passion for mountaineering from a very young age. His mother, Dr Manpreet Kaur, is a gynaecologist.
This is not the first time Teghbir has made headlines for his mountaineering achievements. In April 2024, he reached the Everest Base Camp in Nepal. Just four months later, in August 2024, he became the youngest Asian to scale Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa. For this feat, his name was entered in both the Asia Book of Records and the India Book of Records.
Teghbir’s journey to the top of Mount Elbrus is being widely appreciated, as it showcases not only physical endurance at a young age but also the role of dedication, training and strong family support.
