UAE suspends all tourist visas, shuts down tourist attractions and entertainment destinations to break COVID-19 spread

Effective tomorrow, March 17, with the exception of diplomatic passport holders, the UAE has suspended all visas. The decision however does not apply to those who already have their visas issued prior to March 17.

Earlier Oman too had announced a one-month suspension of all tourist visas.

The Federal Authority for Identity And Citizenship (ICA) said, "The move comes as part of the precautionary measures taken by the UAE in response to the World Health Organisation's declaration of COVID-19 as a pandemic, a development which reflects the high risks now associated with travel under the current circumstances."

However flights to UAE won't be suspended. Refuting rumours on social media the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) tweeted that incoming and outgoing flights will continue.

Entertainment destinations too have been temporarily closed for this month as a preventive measure against COVID-19. Though public parks have opened after a thorough cleaning, beaches are still closed.

Dubai's theme parks and resorts too have suspended operations until the end of this month.

Events at various venues in Dubai too have been suspended until the end of the month.

The Burj Khalifa's outdoor observatory and lounge 'At The Top' too will remain closed till March-end.

The Dubai Mall's Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo, Dubai Opera, Dubai Ice Rink and VR Park Dubai are the other attractions that have been temporarily shut, along with museums, historical sites and public libraries.

Dubai's Global Village on Sunday announced the early closure of its 2019-2020 season, and will now welcome guests only for the next season.

Sharjah too has announced that parks, art and entertainment centres and beaches will be closed until further notice to break the COVID-19 spread.
