Jagraj Singh Wasan is a musician that doesn't shy from the difficult topics in his art. His first single, 'Time to go to sleep', explores the issue of inbred terrorism and highlights the ostracisation faced by Sikhs for "looking like terrorists in the eyes of the ignorant".
Born and bred in Singapore, Jagraj grew up in a city-state where religious and racial harmony were the envy of many other places around the world. He moved to Los Angeles for four years at the age of 20, to complete his degree in Businesses, Cinematic Arts and Songwriting.
While Jagraj had not personally experienced the racial bullying himself, he was struck by the intensity of misunderstanding and ostracisation that Sikhs in other countries had to face, due to their identity. "My project (single) is based on two issues that I was deeply affected by while living in America. One being the multiple schools and mass shootings on a regular basis, and the other being how Sikhs are bullied and harassed for looking a certain way," he explained.
Through his song, Jagraj seeks to explore the psyche behind someone who’s able to justify, in their mind, committing these atrocious acts of violence. "At the same time, it also pains me to see the Sikh community taking the brunt of the blame for terrorist activities based on their look, and because of what some people may relate that to, especially since 9/11."
The multi-talented "Jag of all trades" is also a director and actor, having been featured in various music videos and commercials for companies such as Singtel, Uber and Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS).
