The new Tampines Concourse Bus Interchange has started operating from December 18 with an increasing capacity, providing more bus services to commuters.

Linking through a 250-metre sheltered walkway, the new interchange complements the existing Tampines Bus Interchange.

For now, the interchange is served by three bus services – the new number, 129, and existing services, 18 and 39, which have moved from the current interchange.

There are 12 bus parking lots on site and two berths for passengers to board buses.

There are also facilities like a dedicated boarding point for those in wheelchairs and priority queues with seats for seniors and the disabled.

For the first few days, 40 additional SBS Transit staff are on hand to assist.

The commuters are happy with this new change.

“I’ve been living here for more than 20 years, and it’s good to see the interchange has been finally upgraded. Tampines has been getting especially crowded in the past few years with new malls and other developments, so I really hope this will help with the over congestion,” said 59-year-old housewife Mdm Chiang.

Tony Lee, 19, a student at nearby Temasek Polytechnic said: “The walking distance between the new and old interchanges is honestly not that big – I think that no matter what, the addition will serve well for the residents here, and people who frequent Tampines often.”
