DBS/POSB video teller machines provide 24/7 branch banking services

DBS has rolled out Singapore’s first video teller machines (VTM) at nine locations across the island on Tuesday, April 25, 2017. These machines will provide round-the-clock branch banking services to DBS and POSB customers.

The VTMs are placed within soundproofed booths, providing DBS/POSB customers with privacy. Customers also have the option of getting “face-to-face” assistance from bank tellers via live video streaming, according to a report by Todayonline on April 25.

Services provided include balance enquiries, change of particulars and statement requests. The VTMs are also able to dispense Internet banking security tokens as well as allow customers to apply for debit cards and obtain them instantly, DBS said.

To be able to use the DBS/POSB VTMs, customers will need to have valid identification, such as identity card or a passport, or their ATM card for verification. For more complex transactions that require the SMS-OTP (one-time password), they will need their mobile phones.

The introduction of DBS/POSB VTMs raises the industry bar for banking services in Singapore, said Jeremy Soo, Managing Director and Head of Consumer Banking Group (Singapore), DBS. “For the first time, customers can have access to round-the-clock branch banking services, made possible by augmenting live-video streaming capabilities into our branches via the VTMs.

“The VTMs are an example of how we are re-imagining banking, using digital technology and innovation to extend our reach, enhance our efficiencies, and create tomorrow’s solutions,” he added.

The VTMS are located at DBS SUTD and POSB branches in Rivervale Plaza, Bukit Batok West, Kampong Ubi, Tampines Hub, Yishun North, Toa Payoh North, Bedok North and Ang Mo Kio Central.

The new service by DBS is part of a line “first-of-its-kind” service innovations introduced by the bank to enhance its efficiency and customer convenience. These include the SMS ‘Q’ notification service, which allows customers to request a queue number via SMS prior to visiting the bank’s branches; and the SMS Banking, where customers can perform simple banking transactions via SMS.
