Bilkul! Says sure-footed Ritu Phogat on her chances of MMA success

“Bilkul(of course, certainly),” says Ritu Phogat, the third of the famous wrestler Phogat siblings confidently, when asked about her chances of success in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).

Ritu’s father Mahavir Singh Phogat and her sisters Geeta and Babita rose to global fame when  the 2016 blockbuster Bollywood movie Dangal, starring Aamir Khan was made based on their lives. Dangal was the real-to-reel story of the wrestling coach who raised his daughters to become champions.

Commonwealth Wrestling Championships Gold medalist, Ritu Phogat, who could have made an impact at the upcoming Olympics, has instead turned to MMA.

She is determined to make history not just by carving a career in this format, but winning gold in MMA, the fast-growing contact sport, which is yet to take off in India.

Watch the Spotlight with the three time National Wrestling Champion of India, Bronze medalist in the Asian Wrestling Championships and U23 Wrestling World Championships Silver Medalist spoke to Connected to India.

Will she act as herself and win hearts in Dangal 2?

Will she reach her ultimate goal of making India, her country, proud by becoming India’s first mixed martial arts World Champion, a goal she hopes to attain within two years?

Bilkul!
