At least 60 people who had taken shelter in an east Ukraine school feared dead after being bombed by Russia, Lugansk regional governor Serhiy Gaidai said yesterday.
Gaidai said that the Russian forces dropped a bomb on the school in Bilohorivka causing a fire that engulfed the building.
"Bilogorivka (village) was hit in an airstrike," on Saturday said Gaidai.
"The bombs fell on the school and unfortunately it was completely destroyed. There were a total of 90 people, 27 were saved," he said on Telegram.
"Sixty people who were in the school are very probably dead."
Latest Update: Russia Ukraine War
Ukraine and its Western allies have accused Russian forces of targeting civilians in the war, which Moscow denies.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said in an address late on Saturday that more than 300 civilians had been rescued from the Azovstal steelworks and authorities would now focus on trying to evacuate the wounded and medics. Other Ukrainian sources have cited different figures.
Russian-backed separatists on Saturday reported a total of 176 civilians evacuated from the plant.
