Shangri-La Dialogue still on, says Singapore as WEF cancels upcoming meeting

Even as the World Economic Forum announced it had cancelled its annual meeting set to be held in Singapore this August, the city-state said that the Shangri-La Dialogue in early June would still go ahead as planned.

In a press release, Singapore’s defence ministry mentioned it was “encouraged by the positive response to invitations” to the meeting.

“Nevertheless, as the COVID-19 situation is fluid and continues to evolve in the run-up to the meeting, the Singapore government will continue to monitor the local and global COVID-19 situation and make the necessary adjustments,” it added.

These developments come as Singapore strikes aggressively to stamp out the unfold of the virus within the metropolis.
