The wide-ranging and eclectic line-up of programmes at Indian Heritage Centre's CultureFest 2020 revolve around the epic Indian literary work - The Ramayana. From September 5-20, CultureFest 2020 brings audiences a wide variety of performances, exhibitions and workshops in its first ever digital edition via the Indian Heritage Centre Facebook page.
Part of the festival are daily cultural showcases, presented digitally - all around the central theme of The Ramayana. On Thursday evening, audiences were treated to a folk dance performance called Kuravai.
Presented by VK ARTS, the Kuravai folk dance presentation gave audiences a glimpse into the mystic side of the Dandakaranya forest, further elevated by melodious classical music.
Bhaskar Arts Academy musicians provided the musical support for the classical song praising Sri Rama through its repetitive lines that almost sound like a chant.
A unqiue feature of the performance was the placement of the musicians in the foreground with the dancers forming the backdrop.
The traditional costumes, which are actually worn by the people of Tamil Nadu, added colour to the forest like setting, which sought to represent the Dandakaranya forest.
