A day after the film industry was hit by the news of the passing away of Irrfan Khan, came another major blow. Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor passed away in Mumbai, losing a long battle to cancer. He was 67.

The actor had been unwell for some time and had been admitted to a Mumbai hospital on Wednesday. Amitabh Bachchan, a co-star of Kapoor’s in films like Amar Akbar Anthony, Coolie and 102 Not Out, tweeted that he was “destroyed” by the news.

In September 2018, Rishi Kapoor and his wife Neetu Singh had spent a prolonged period in New York where the actor underwent treatment for cancer. They spent about a year abroad while he was being treated, with son Ranbir and daughter Riddhima visiting him often. Many other actors like Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone had also visited him.

Padukone in fact had recently announced her new film with Kapoor, a hindi remake of The Intern

Rishi Kapoor had been shooting in Delhi in February when he was hospitalised in the national capital. As rumours swirled about a relapse of his cancer, he had tweeted, “I have been filming in Delhi past 18 days and because of the Pollution and my low count of neutrophils, I caught an infection whereby I had to be hospitalized. I was running a slight fever and on investigation, Drs found a patch which could have led to pneumonia, was detected and is being cured. People seem to have assumed a lot different. I put to rest all those  stories and look forward to entertain and love you. I am now in Mumbai.”

Rishi Kapoor, who was Raj Kapoor's third child, had starred in hit films like Bobby and Chandni
