India is our forever muse: Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla

33 years on, fashion design power duo Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla never fail to take the industry by storm with their glamorous creations.

Their star-studded repertoire includes the likes of pop queens Beyoncé and Jennifer Lopez, as well as the biggest Bollywood brides in recent years - from Priyanka Chopra to Sonam Kapoor and Deepika Padukone. The celebrated creations of Jani and Khosla are well-loved for their fusion of Indian craftsmanship and textile heritage with modern designs.

“India has been a source of great inspiration to the world, and for Abu Sandeep as a brain, India will always be our main muse,” said Khosla, who was in town for a festive showcase held at The Arts House, Singapore.

Organised by The SilkRoot, the exclusive event featured some of the hottest new styles from Couture and Diffusion fashion labels, Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla Couture, Asal by Abu Sandeep, as well as luxe western wear label Khosla Jani.

Connected to India caught up with Khosla during the showcase, to talk about the history of the Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla fashion brand, his views on Indian fashion, and his experience dressing some of the biggest names in Bollywood.

Established in 2007 in New Delhi, The SilkRoot was the brainchild of Sikha Nanda. It began as a jewellery brand. In 2007, Nanda moved to Singapore, where she met her partner Meeta Bhagat. The duo hosted their first ever lifestyle show with Ekaya, a brand dealing with banarsi sarees, in 2013.

“And from there, there was no looking back,” shared Nanda, who added that working with Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla felt like a dream come true. “We have been hosting them for the past four years and we can see that their popularity is growing every year. Our clients in Singapore love their creations, and details to their work.
