Richa Chadha: Section 375 is more than just a courtroom drama

Powerhouse actress Richa Chadha was in Singapore for the world premiere of her latest film, a courtroom drama titled Section 375.

She took time out of her hectic schedule for an exclusive interview with Connected to India, before the premiere event at the Singapore South Asian International Film Festival (Sg. Saiff) 2019.

Based on Section 375 of the Indian Penal Code, the plot of the film revolves around a high profile case in which a filmmaker is accused of sexually assaulting a female crew member. Richa plays the role of the public prosecutor handling the case.

“With gender crimes in India, [the topic] threads a very fine line. You don’t want to encourage anything that has to do with misogyny, you don’t want to lie… and you have the job of creating awareness about the topic among common people,” Richa said.

“At the same time, you also need to make sure the film is entertaining and gripping enough for people to watch it.”
