Malaysia’s Sri Dasmesh Sikh pipe band has emerged the winner of the World Pipe Band Championship, which took place in Scotland on Saturday, August 17. The band came in tops for overall, drumming, as well as parade.
Organised by the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association, the competition saw up to 8,000 pipers and drummers from 195 bands converge at the Glasgow Green with bands from Malaysia, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Austria, Switzerland, Eire, America, Belgium, England, Spain, Northern Ireland and Scotland.
According to news reports, the Sri Dasmesh Pipe Band was named champions of Grade 4B at the competition.
Founded in 1986 by Sukdev Singh, a commercial pilot and the director of an international school of the same name, and his brother, Harvinder Singh, this was the second time that the Sri Dasmesh Sikh pipe band took part in the world series. They were also the only Malaysian representatives at the event.
