World Toilet Organisation to partner release of ‘Toilet Ek Prem Katha’ for Singapore preview

Toilet Ek Prem Katha, talked about for its title and content, becomes the first Indian film on a subject that World Toilet Organisation has been advocating: a campaign against open defecation and lack of proper toilet facilities in rural areas.

The film, slated to release worldwide on August 11, will have its Singapore preview screening a day before on August 10 at GV VIVO city in partnership with the organisation.

Starring Akshay Kumar, Bhumi Pednekar and Anupam Kher, the film is a satirical, humorous take on India’s open-air defecation issue in support of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, a government campaign to improve the sanitation conditions in India.

The quirky approach of the film aims to educate the world and bring to light the issues surrounding sanitation and women’s safety in India. The parallel draw of the film also aims to tug the hearts of every single lover who is willing to go to any lengths for their beloved.

Directed by Shree Narayan Singh, Toilet Ek Prem Katha has some similarity to real life events where 19-year old Priyanka Bharti in India ran away from her husband's home in 2012 when she found there was no toilet.

The story resonates with the global movement that Jack Sim, founder of the World Toilet Organisation, started in 2001 to raise awareness on the issue of poor sanitation and lack of access to toilets in developing countries. The Singapore based non-profit will also be present at the screening to share their story and garner support for their global initiatives including vital work in India as well as to sign up participants for their annual fundraiser - The Urgent Run, on October 28, 2017.
