Punjab woman narrates tale of torture in Saudi Arabia

Another case of gruesome torture in Saudi Arabia has come to light as a Punjabi woman has accused her employers of physical abuse and expressed the fear that she might be killed. She narrated her woes in a video which has gone viral on social media. She urged Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann and the Indian government to bring her back to India and save her from the ordeal.

The woman, identified as Reena, was working as a maid in Dawadmi city located in the Riyadh province in Saudi Arabia. Her employer allegedly forced her to be a slave and kept her in captivity.

Apparently in pain and with tears rolling down her face, she narrated the horrific torture meted out to her in Saudi Arabia via the video. She appealed to the Aam Aadmi Party's Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann to rescue her.

The victim says that she belongs to a very poor family and had come to Dawadmi town of Saudi Arabia a year ago.

In the video, the hapless lady said, “Bhagwant Maan Sahab please help me. I am in pain here. I am in a trouble. I am being tortured from the past one year. You had also rescued a Hoshiarpur girl. Please rescue me as well. I am like your daughter. Please help me. I am badly trapped here. I never knew that this will happen to me.”

She also accused the Saudi Police of not helping her. She said, “I am denied food for days. I am being physically tortured. They lock me up in a room. Somehow, I had managed to reach the police for help. I was ill-treated by police officials as well. They kicked me out from the station and I was again thrown back in the same house.”

The woman says that she is married and has children too. Her mother is unwell and has to undergo an operation. She also wants to return home and fears that she might be killed.

She said, “I have children too. I want to go back to them. My mother is unwell, and she has to undergo an operation. Please help me. I don't want to live here. Rescue me from here. I'm being physically tortured. Look at me, these people are very cruel and inhuman.”

Advising people from Punjab not to come to Saudi Arabia, she said, “These people are very dirty. I advise my brothers and sisters to not to even think about coming here. I have seen very bad days.”

The woman Reena belongs to Boparai near Goraya in Phagwara tehsil coming under Kapurthala district of Punjab. Her mother Chand Rani told UNI, “My daughter was married in Tanda but her husband fell ill a  few months after their marriage and she, with the help of a travel agent, went to Saudi Arabia to earn money for her livelihood but her employer mercilessly tortured her.”
