Last year, Fort Canning Park and Bay East Garden were identified as two possible sites for the memorial. Now, Bay East Garden has emerged as the preferred site with 72 per cent voting from over 700 members.

As per the committee, the major reasons for choosing Bay East Garden as the location for Founders’ Memorial include its accessibility to different groups of visitors, including children and the elderly. The spatial set-up has the potential for future development and symbolises the Republic’s development.

One of the other main reasons is Bay East Garden will be accessible by MRT via the Gardens by the Bay station on the Thomson-East Coast Line, which is set to be completed by 2021.
