Elderly citizens of Singapore learn water sports skills

To keep elderly people active in their twilight years, the People’s Association (PA) launched a new programme ‘Silver Wave’ today which will help them experience the thrills of water sports.

Under the programme, people aged above 55 years will undergo a pedal boat orientation programme which teaches seniors the fundamental skills of operating the boat. The fee of the weekly programme is about SGD5 per person.

According to the press release issued by PA, “The pedal boats were selected for this initiative as the vessel’s design maximises safety and minimises physical exertion on the part of the boat handler – primary considerations for most first-time senior citizen participants.”

The aim of the Silver Wave programme is to engage about 1000 senior citizens yearly as part of the larger national drive to promote an active lifestyle for this category of population.

Each PAssion Silver Card holder can also rent Specialist CC vessels at SGD2 off the standard rental rates of equipments and vessels, the press release added.
