To provide relief to tenants who are unable to pay their rent in Dubai, AED 1 million has been given to judicial arm of Dubai Land Department (DLD). This is likely to help numerous Indians who are unable to meet the sky-rocketing rent prices in Dubai and have become insolvent.
The family of late Obeid Al Helou has donated the money to help the tenants. Rental Dispute Centre (RDC) will help insolvent, defaulting tenants who have been convicted during rental proceedings. In this connection, RDC has even set up a committee to study the cases that can receive support from this fund.
Judge Abdulqader Mousa, director of RDC said, “We would like to express our sincere thanks to the family of the late Obeid Al Helou for making this noble humanitarian donation. One of our key objectives at the RDC is to secure stable relations between tenants and landlords in order to sustain Dubai’s safe real estate environment, and this donation will enable us to support insolvent tenants in a meaningful way.”
Mousa emphasised that the money will be used solely for paying the dues in difficult cases, in line with the charitable and humanitarian aspect of the centre’s operations. The RDC has assembled specialised committees to oversee these cases and closely study the situations of families to determine their conditions.
Further, the move is in line with the announcement of 2017 as the Year of Giving by the President, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Mousa added, “The move is the latest in a string of RDC initiatives that have been launched to support the UAE’s Year of Giving. The RDC will continue to align its operations with the Year of Giving, by providing necessary assistance for humanitarian cases under the expert guidance of specially appointed RDC committees.”
